OQYC is dead. Long live OQYS!

Submitted by Joe on Sat, 2010-05-15 17:11. OQYC has been struggling for the past several years to survive. Luckily, our friends over at Oregon GSA Network have been hard at work on something bigger and better!

An Update on OQYC 2009

Submitted by Joe on Sat, 2009-04-18 21:13.
As many of you have noticed, OQYC 2009 appears to have not be happening.

OQYC is all about student involvement in every stage of planning. Every year it takes the incredible dedication of a few students to make OQYC happen.

This year, though we had lots of people who wanted to help, no student who really wanted to step up and be the primary driving force appeared.

Our hope is that we'll be back for OQYC 2010 if we can raise some enthusiasm. If you're interested in seeing OQYC continue, please drop us a line.

Thank you all,

Help OQYC Survive!

Submitted by Joe on Thu, 2008-11-20 23:15.
For the past several years, OQYC has been primarily youth-run. Though there has been a great deal of help from some key adults, the ultimate success of the conference has always been up to the student organizers.

Now many of the main organizers of OQYC have ended up far away at college and are unable to help make OQYC happen! Blake, our intrepid leader from last year, is now away at Yale. Stew, our leader for a few years before Blake, is now away at Dartmouth (whew, why so many Ivys?). The rest of us who love OQYC (like myself) are away at our respective schools too.

Thus, OQYC NEEDS YOU!. If you've got a strong interest in getting Oregon's queer youth together, and want to help out, drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you.

With Love,
Joe (from 1500 miles away)

We Need a Youth Speaker!

Submitted by Joe on Wed, 2008-02-13 18:56. Hey everyone! We're in search of a youth speaker this year to speak for 15 minutes or so about youth empowerment! If you're interested, please email Angela Carkner with:
  • Who you are
  • What you would talk about
  • Why it's important and relevant to the conference
  • Contact info (email is fine)
Please email submissions by Feb. 29. The planning committee will get back to you with their decision by March 3rd.

Catlin Gabel Participates in Day of Silence

Submitted by Joe on Tue, 2006-04-25 19:49.

The Day of Silence is happening tomorrow!

Dozens of Catlin Gabel students will be participating in this annual event which is designed to bring attention to and protest the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transexual and queer people and their allies.  The silence of the participants echoes the silence caused by harassment, prejudice and discrimination.

After school, the participants will gather for a communal breaking of the silence.

Learn more at DayOfSilence.org

What are you going to do to end the silence?

Thank You!
